 Legal and Ethical Consideration

When creating a short film, the production and marketing team need to take into consideration different regulations, ethical and legal issues surrounding the content within the product itself. this is vital ask we believe it is important to avoid any unnecessary complaints or legal action being directed at us. Additionally, we can ensure that language that may be deemed offensive to some groups can be limited. This is very relevant to our documentary as we plan on discussing specific topics such as murder and other crimes, which may not be appropriate for specific people, for example children under certain age.

To avoid these problems, we looked at the BBFC age restricting chart and based our age rating off of what we believed they would rate our short film. As a team we concluded that our documentary would be age rated 12A as there are serious topics such as murder and other crimes being discussed however these topics will not be discussed in as much detail.  However, if any graphic imagery or any strong language is used within the documentary, the age rating may increase to 15, but at the moment we plan on restricting our age rating to 12A.

Due to our film being filmed in a unknown location we plan to visit it before hand to assess any risks that may be faced for health and safety purposes. When doing so we plan to also create a risk assessment to Identify any possible risks and to help prevent them when filming. We will also have to ensure that everybody gives permission to be films ask the people that we're working with (everyone in the group) All under the age of 18. So, due to the privacy protection act, parents will need to give permission for the actor’s scenes to be distributed on various social media sites. This well make certain that no legal action will be directed at us.

The most relevant ethical issue that we may face is how we represents the crime itself without being offensive to anyone involved especially the victims/victims family. This specific topic can be very sensitive to some people and a fence may be taken if important information is missed or said information is false. To avoid this issue we plan to fact check all the Information that we‘ve collected, to ensure that they are all correct and we plan on looking at documentaries about the Allitt case so that no significant information is left out. Also, we will not discuss the murders/attempted murders in greater or unnecessary detail  Cause this can be seen as disrespectful to anybody involved within our audience.
